ClosePlan Installation: Custom Field Limit preventing installation

 

During installation, it is possible that some larger and older Organizations will hit their limit of available Salesforce Field relationships.

The errors will only present themselves one at a time, so it is possible that you will need to resolve multiple issues in a single install. It's not likely, but it's possible.

Error Message example:

(Opportunity.CPStageAP_EventBehavior__c) Custom Field Limit Exceeded

This means their Salesforce Org has exceeded the maximum number of custom fields allowed in the system. The System Administrator will have to resolve the issue.

Solution:

Free up from 1 to 6 fields on the Opportunity object.

To find how many an Org is using: Gear icon > Setup > Object manager > Select the Object (in this case Opportunity) > Click 'Object Limits' > Look at Custom Fields:

Note:

If you see this error, it indicates the client has used all the fields within the managed package limit. For the Enterprise Edition, you can create 500 custom fields on an object plus install 400 fields from a managed package and 100 of those fields are limited to specific objects. ClosePlan requires 6 fields.

As a general rule, any org that has 500+ fields on their Opportunity Object should review their list and take appropriate actions to delete unused fields.
